Since updating to macOS 27, I have noticed that Core Shell can continue running in the background after I quit the application.
When I choose Quit from the Dock or the application menu, I expect Core Shell to terminate completely. However, macOS still reports that Core Shell is running in the background. The remaining process can only be stopped manually by right-clicking the Core Shell icon in the Dock and choosing “Stop Running in the Background”.
Could you please add an option in Core Shell’s preferences to control this behavior, for example:
- Continue running in the background after quitting
- Quit completely when the application is closed
Ideally, Core Shell should also register this background component properly with macOS so that it appears under:
System Settings → General → Login Items & Extensions → Allow in the Background
This would allow users to enable or disable the behavior directly in macOS.
For users who do not need background functionality, quitting the application should terminate all Core Shell processes. If background functionality is required for features such as terminal sessions, notifications, synchronization, or updates, it would be helpful if the application explained this clearly and provided a separate setting to control it.
Expected behavior:
- Open Core Shell.
- Quit Core Shell normally.
- Core Shell and its helper/background processes terminate completely, unless the user has explicitlyenabled background operation.
System information:
- macOS 27.0
- Core Shell: 5.1.1 (8EDB4B) (Setapp)
- Mac models: MacBook Air M1, MacBook Air M2
Thank you for considering this feature.
