Activity in one SSH session causes other terminal sessions to freeze

Hi,

I’ve been using Core Shell on macOS for over two years and have generally found it stable. However, I’m experiencing a freeze that affects multiple open terminal sessions.

With several SSH sessions open, what appears to be a periodic SSH ping or keepalive event in one session seems to make the other sessions unresponsive too. The app appears to stall while handling that event.

The connection between these “pings” and the freeze is my current suspicion; I haven’t isolated the exact trigger or confirmed that keepalive handling is responsible.

Expected behaviour: Each terminal session should remain responsive independently. Activity or a connection problem in one session should not block the others.

Environment:

  • Mac: Apple Silicon
  • macOS version: 15.7.5 (24G624)
  • Core Shell version and distribution: Version 5.0 (A7B16)
  • Approximate freeze duration: Until pings complete their succession

Is this a known issue? Please let me know which logs or diagnostics would help identify the cause, particularly whether taking an Activity Monitor process sample during a freeze would be useful.

Thanks!

I tested this with ping and didn’t observe any interference between sessions. I also ran a stress test using yes (which continuously prints y as fast as possible), while keeping another session active. The other session continued to work normally.

Could you try the same test with yes? In theory, if the sessions are interfering with each other, running yes in one session should cause all other sessions to become unresponsive.

One difference is that my tests were performed on macOS 26 and 27.
